John Christopher Byrne (November 27th 1935 – April 2nd 2008)[1] was an Irish television screenwriter and script editor. He travelled extensively in his youth as a travelling poet. During the 1960s he worked as a literary editor, and wrote short stories that were published in Science Fantasy magazine.
He, Keith Richardson, and Gerry Mill created the ITV period drama Heartbeat. Sandie Shaw's cover of the song "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" plays in the very first episode, titled "Changing Places".
